PURIFY’22 to Address Challenges, Opportunities and Full-scale Application of Chromatography to Future Manufacturing, Opines S. K. Jana, Director R&D and Manufacturing, Serum Institute

Chromatography is one the most important purification techniques and the use of integrated chromatographic techniques for automation with different online sensors like IoTs, AI at different measurement points of processes to make manufacturing process continuous, seamless, robust with high throughput yield, higher process capability with less time and no failure is the cornerstone of a modern, advanced & powerful manufacturing system.

The use of chromatographic manufacturing is related to the time required for a product to pass through a manufacturing process converting crude biologics / vaccines / biosimilars into finished goods involving automation, integration of several unit operations with minimal manual intervention during the manufacturing.

The different talks by different experts in PURIFY’22 will address some challenges & opportunities and its full-scale application to future manufacturing. Pharmaceutical companies also use chromatography both to prepare large quantities of extremely pure materials and also to analyse the purified compounds for trace contaminants.

Purification is a critical step in drug manufacturing, helping to eliminate unwanted materials that can be hazardous or compromise drug efficacy.

Chromatography purification can also be used as efficient separation techniques which employ one or more inherent characteristics of a protein like its mass, isoelectric point, hydrophobility, affinity or biospecificity.

Development and manufacturing of different biosimilars like recombinantly produced protein and mAbs are the emerging and already established fields wherein complete arrays of chromatographic methods are being used. The PURIFY’22 conclave is going to address the applications of these great chromatographic separation techniques across vaccines, biologics and pharmaceutical industries.

Dr. S. K. Jana is a speaker at the upcoming PURIFY’22 with his talk titled, ‘Integrated Chromatographic Purification Process for Bio Molecules’.
