EyeLock: “What You Should Know About Biometrics in the Cloud”
EyeLock LLC, a market leader of iris-based identity authentication solutions, has released a new white paper “What You Should Know About Biometrics in the Cloud.”
The problem of ensuring user authenticity is a growing concern. In traditional schemes, cryptography is used to protect the authentication of users. However, traditional authentication schemes such as username/password suffer from inherent weaknesses.
Biometric authentication offers an elegant solution to the problem of high-security user authentication. As users, applications and devices leave the safety of the enterprise network and move toward the Cloud, identity protection becomes critical to maintaining security.
Biometric authentication consists of verifying an individual based on a unique physical feature such as a fingerprint, iris, voice print, etc. Unlike passwords, biometric properties are not as susceptible to loss or theft and, if implemented correctly, are difficult to copy or forge. Moreover, with biometric authentication all users have an enforceable equally-high security criterion (no weak passwords).
Although biometric authentication is a preferred solution, it currently suffers from challenges that must be addressed before Cloud-based authentication becomes a viable option. This whitepaper presents a new biometric protection system developed by EyeLock’s Advanced Research Labs to address these challenges.
